A Tribute To Brigitte Bardot – French Actress, Sex Symbol & Animal Activist

Posted on December 29, 2025December 29, 2025 By The Body House No Comments on A Tribute To Brigitte Bardot – French Actress, Sex Symbol & Animal Activist

In light of the recent passing of French actress Brigitte Bardo, I am bringing this small tribute to her life and career.

Bardot’s animal rights foundation announced her death in a statement to news agency Agence France-Presse on Sunday, December 28th/2025 without specifying the time or place of death.

She really was an unusual spirit and beauty.

In the Beginning…

Brigitte Anne-Marie Bardot was born on September 28, 1934, in Paris, France, to a wealthy industrialist family.

As a girl, she trained as a ballet dancer at the Conservatoire de Paris.

She splashed onto the scene at the tender age of 15 when she was featured on the cover of *Elle* magazine. It launched her face into the hearts of millions along with an incredible career as a model and actress.

She became a favorite of director Roger Vadim.

In 1949, while babysitting a friend’s three-year-old son, Vadim came across a magazine photograph of the then 15-year-old Bardot.

Captivated by her beauty, he went on to marry Bardot in 1952 and launched her acting career.

Their collaboration on the 1956 film “And God Created Woman” — where her uninhibited portrayal of a sexually liberated young woman, shocked audiences and established her as a global sex symbol.

This film catapulted both Bardot and Vadim to to international stardom and recognition. The couple divorced in 1957.

Career Highlights…

Bardot starred in over 40 films, including notable ones like;

Contempt (1963) directed by Jean-Luc Godard

Viva Maria! (1965) with Jeanne Moreau

Dear Brigitte (1965) opposite Jimmy Stewart a Hollywood comedy

She also had a successful music career in the 1960s…

Bardot recorded pop albums and several hits, often collaborating with Serge Gainsbourg.

Bardot became an icon of the sexual revolution, inspiring figures from Bob Dylan (who reportedly wrote his first song about her) to John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

In 1969, she modeled for the bust of Marianne, the symbol of the French Republic.

Her Love Life…

Bardot’s personal life was turbulent and highly publicized.

She married four times:

– Director Roger Vadim (1952–1957). He was instrumental in getting her career started.

– Actor Jacques Charrier (1959–1962), with whom she had her only child, son Nicolas (born 1960).
– German millionaire Gunter Sachs (1966–1969).
– Bernard d’Ormale (1992–until her death), a far-right political figure.

Significant Love Relationships

Brigitte Bardot was known to have had numerous passionate and tumultuous affairs.

In interviews and memoirs, Bardot has admitted to having both male and female lovers, as she constantly sought excitement and emotional intensity.

She also struggled with depression, and attempted suicide multiple times (most notably on her 26th birthday in 1960).

Below is a list of some of the men Bardot has been linked to;

***Many of these affairs occurred during her marriages, contributing to their breakdowns.***

– Jean-Louis Trintignant (1956–approx. 1958);

Trintignant was Bardot co-star in the film *And God Created Woman* when she began an affair with him. Bardot was married to the director of that film at the time — Roger Vadim. This affair played a major role in ending of the ending of her first marriage to Vadim in 1957.

– Gilbert Bécaud (late 1950s);

While involved with Trintignant, Bardot had a brief affair with the married French musician and singer Gilbert Bécaud.

– Sacha Distel (late 1950s);

Before her second marriage to Jacques Charrier, Bardot had a short-lived romance with the French jazz guitarist and singer Sacha Distel.

– Glenn Ford (early 1960s);

During her marriage to Charrier, Bardot engaged in an affair with American actor Glenn Ford, her co-star in the 1960 film Dear Brigitte.

– Sami Frey (1962);

Bardot fell deeply for the actor Sami Frey, which prompted her divorce from Charrier in 1962. However, Frey ended the relationship shortly after, leaving Bardot heartbroken.

Mike Sarne (1966);

Just days after marrying her third husband, Gunter Sachs, Bardot started an affair with British actor and director Mike Sarne, her co-star in Two Weeks in September.

Warren Beatty (1960s);

Bardot had a brief fling with the American actor Warren Beatty during the height of her international fame. It was one of her high-profile Hollywood connections.

Serge Gainsbourg (1967–1968);

While still married to Sachs, Bardot had a passionate affair with the French singer-songwriter Serge Gainsbourg.

Their relationship produced iconic musical collaborations, including the duet “Bonnie and Clyde” and the controversial “Je t’aime… moi non plus,” which involved intimate recording sessions.

Nino Ferrer (1960s);

A short affair with the Italian-French singer Nino Ferrer occurred during her third marriage.

Bob Zagury (1960s–1970s);

Bardot dated Brazilian music producer Bob (or Bab) Zagury for several years after her divorce from Sachs.

On an interesting note…
Bardot reportedly turned down advances from Sean Connery during the filming of Shalako (1968).

Her Celebrated Relationship with Actor Alain Delon

Accounts of Bardot’s connection to French actor Alain Delon (who passed away in 2024) are ‘inconsistent’.

They met in the late 1950s and co-starred in films like Famous Love Affairs (1961) and the anthology Spirits of the Dead (1968), where their on-screen chemistry fueled rumors of an off-screen affair.

Some reports claim a passionate but short-lived romance around 1958–1960, during Bardot’s early career peak. Others say it was purely platonic.

However, Bardot’s biographies and memoirs emphasize a deep, lifelong friendship rather than a romantic relationship. She described Delon as her “alter ego” and he remained one of her closest confidants until his death in 2024.

In Retirement & Passing…

In 1973, at age 39, Bardot retired from acting after nearly 50 films, stating she wanted to devote her life to animals.

She founded the Brigitte Bardot Foundation in 1986, auctioning personal items to fund it.

Brigitte Bardot passed away on December 28, 2025, at age 91.

R.I.P Brigitte.
