Hello Body House Members;
I don’t know about where you are, but I don’t remember so many 90+ degree days in summer in the New York City area. I’m already looking forward to fall.
Speaking of hot, for this August’s featured star, we have the scorching hot singer, model and actress GALE ROBBINS.
Robbins did not achieve huge fame in Hollywood, but her beautiful presence was always felt. Frankly, when you see her on screen or in a performance, I have to wonder why.
She married her high school sweetheart and had two daughters.

In the Beginning…
Gale Robbins (born Betty Gale Robbins or Betty Gale Murphy, May 7, 1921 – February 18, 1980) was an American actress and singer.
She passed away from lung cancer on February 18, 1980, in Tarzana, California, at the age of 58.
Early Years
Gale Robbins was born in Chicago, Illinois, although one source claims she was born in Mitchell, Indiana, and her family moved to Chicago “when she was very young.”
She graduated from Lucy Flower High School in June 1939.
Robbins also attended the Vera Jones Modeling School and became a successful model, posing for numerous magazine covers and advertisements.
A 1941 newspaper article described her as:
“The famous model whose face has appeared on the covers of many leading magazines, and whose eyes and teeth are the trademarks respectively of Murine and Iodent.”
Off to Hollywood!
Gale began her film career with small roles in My Dear Secretary, The Windjammer, and Race Street.
She gained attention for singing several songs in the 1949 musical The Barkleys of Broadway.
However, she never secured a major movie role.
During the 1950s, she made numerous appearances on television, including:
- Mister Ed
- 77 Sunset Strip
- Perry Mason
She also recorded an album titled I’m a Dreamer.
Gale was married to Robert Olson, and together they had two daughters, Victoria and Cynthia. In the early 1960s, she chose to leave acting to focus on raising her family.
After her husband was tragically killed in a construction accident, Gale transitioned into a new career as an interior designer and occasionally performed in nightclubs… often over seas.
In 1975, she returned to the stage in Stephen Sondheim’s musical Company.
Final Years and Legacy
Sadly, Gale Robbins passed away from lung cancer on February 18, 1980, at just 58 years old.
She is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills, California.

GALE ROBBINS’ LOVE LIFE
First & ONLY Husband – Robert Wesley Olson (m. 1943; to 1967 his death)
Gale Robbins married her high school sweetheart, Robert Wesley Olson, on November 8, 1943, while he was serving in the U.S. Army Air Forces. They remained married until Olson’s death.
Robert Wesley Olson, died in a tragic construction accident. Olson, who worked as a building contractor after serving in the Air Force, was killed on February 4, 1967 when he “fell off a wall in an Encino parking lot.”
He was 47 years old at the time.
The impact of her husband’s sudden passing prompted Gale Robbins to spend time abroad, including performing in nightclubs across Japan and the Orient. She also worked as an interior designer.
She raised their two daughters alone.

Quotes By GALE ROBBINS
“I’m a little worried about Hollywood. People have forgotten there is anything else in the world out there but careers and motion pictures. As they sometimes put it, they’ve gotten so they are believing their own publicity. That’s one thing that’s not happening to me.” – Gale Robbins
