TRANSCRIPT OF VIDEO…
Okay, today I’ve got a passage from Carlos Castaneda’s book, The Fire From Within.
Carlos is talking to his Shaman Master Don Juan, and they’re talking about emotions and maturing. And I thought it was absolutely fascinating.
So, I wanted to share this with you. Ok, this is Carlos talking right now….
“Every time I entered into heightened awareness, I cannot cease marveling at the difference between my two sides.I always felt as if a veil had been lifted from my eyes, as if I had been partially blind before, and now I could see the freedom, the sheer joy that used to possess me on those occasions cannot be compared with anything else I have ever experienced. Yet, at the same time, there was a frightening feeling of sadness and longing that went hand in hand with that freedom and joy.
Don Juan had told me that there is no completeness without sadness and longing for without them, there is no sobriety. No, kindness. Wisdom without kindness, he said, and knowledge without sobriety are useless.“
Alright, what they mean by sobriety is just a sober way of looking at life; not being overly emotional, not being too down, just rather matter of fact in attitude. And how you go through life.
So, I thought it was significant that Don Juan, who Carlos Castaneda apprenticed under, makes the point that we can’t have real wisdom or maturity unless we feel the downsides to life as well. I think too much has been made today of always feeling good, and that when you don’t…
When you’re not happy, when you’re feeling depressed, that maybe there’s a judgment around that and you shouldn’t feel that. At the same time, I don’t think you should sink into it because you’re feeling deeply depressed or sad or angry.
It doesn’t mean that you give into that.
What’s being said here, between Carlos and Don Juan is that the Warriors Path is to feel both the joy, the freedom of the sadness, the longing to feel all of it and just keep going.
Take action. Keep moving. Filter your energy through all of it and stay sober, emotionally sober, and I have found this to be true.
I often have conflicting emotions, but you just stay present, let those things filter through your system,
Stay calm and give the moment what it needs, it would be nice if we had more examples of that in our culture or anywhere in the world for that matter.
So that’s my point for today. That was a paragraph from Carlos Castaneda’s book The Fire From Within on emotional sobriety
Thank you for listening and reading. Have a very sensual day. Dyann xoxo
