These days, it’s understandable and way too easy to become disconnected from our instincts, our physical body and the still presence of our mind. Especially, when every time we turn around, the standard of our American society declines another notch.
However, sensual living — which to me is a life that fully engages our body, mind and spirit — can help us rise above all this chaos and in fact, help to heal it.
Becoming a grounded human being with an elevated consciousness not only helps you as the individual and those around you, but the whole of humanity.
This article explores how to engage in sensual living, raise your spiritual consciousness and find the peace inside you that the world so desperately needs.
What IS Sensual Living?
When I talk about sensual living, I mean the engagement of our entire physicality, a focused mind and calm emotions.
This sounds simple. Yet, the disconnection from and the inability for humans to find this experience within themselves is the main reason our world is in big trouble.
Here are what I consider to be the core elements of Sensual Living:
- BODY – Physical Health – Exercising daily or at least 4-5 days a week and eating as cleanly as possible is a must these days. That alone will get you a long way. The body, mind, spirit connection is real. The body will help heal other parts of you, such as your mind and emotionsYou don’t have to be a full on athlete either to get benefits. Pushing yourself is the point.
- MIND – Being fully present in the moment – We hear this one all the time. Some people have made a career of discussing being in the moment. It’s not as easy as it sounds, but it’s worthy of practicing. It’s the gold standard of consciousness raising. Ultimately, it’s about focusing the mind.
- SPIRIT – Meditation – In my opinion, the most important aspect of meditation Practicing meditation can have a profound effect on your consciousness. It helps you to stay in the moment. It helps you manage your emotions better and gives you greater clarity.
So… based on this ideology…
Below are a few ways to help you engage in sensual living, connect to our world more deeply and elevate your consciousness;
7 Ideas On How To Embrace Sensual Living
Sound Healing
Sound healing uses specific frequencies to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and improve overall well-being. Instruments like singing bowls, tuning forks, gongs and hand pans, produce vibrations that resonate with our body’s natural frequencies.
Listening to or playing these instruments can help you achieve a state of deep relaxation and heightened awareness.
Music For Deep Sleep
Music has a profound impact on our emotions and can elevate our mood. This has been demonstrated for eons. Listening to soothing music can help to relax you and help you sleep.
Deep sleep is essential for feeling good and having good health. Restful sleep helps to the body heal and restore the cells during the night. This is an essential process for having energy and engaging in sensual living to its fullest.
Binaural Beats
Some people love and some people hate them. Binaural beats are an approach to relaxation that still has inconclusive results. It’s not just anecdotally. Science has yet to prove binaural beats have a positive effect on mental and physical health
If you are someone who loves binaural beats it could be because it’s considered a soundwave therapy.
It uses two slightly different frequencies played in each ear to create a third frequency in the brain.
It’s this ‘third’ frequency that can help induce states of relaxation, focus, meditation and sleep.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy involves using essential oils to stimulate the sense of smell and promote emotional and physical well-being. This is an ancient practice that many cultures have engaged in over the centuries.
Scents like lavender, eucalyptus, and peppermint can have calming, invigorating, or balancing effects.
Incorporating aromatherapy into your daily routine can enhance your sensory experiences and elevate your mood.
Get Into Nature
Spending time in nature allows you to connect with the natural frequencies of the earth. This is not just spiritual, it’s also based in scientific fact.
Activities like walking barefoot on grass, listening to the sounds of a forest, or feeling the breeze on your skin can ground you and enhance your sensory awareness. Nature immersion helps reset your internal rhythms and promotes a sense of peace and well-being.
Meditation
This is a BIG one for me. It might be for you too. Especially, if you’ve felt the benefits from a regular meditation practice. Meditation helps you tune into your inner self and become more aware of your thoughts and feelings.
All you need to do is sit with your spine straight, close your eyes or leave them half closed and concentrate on your breathing. Then, watch what happens. The tiniest interruption in thought can help breaking the pattern of ‘freight train’ thinking. The mind is your to control. Not the other way around.
Affection
Sensual living also including physical touch, affection and of course, sex. Spend time touching the person you are with more often. Just having a make out session and cuddling can do wonders for your mental and physical health.
