Masculine And Feminine Energies In Tantra

Masculine and feminine energies are embedded in the DNA of Tantra.

Tantra is a complex, ancient and deeply healing spiritual philosophy that when practiced correctly, is extremely relevant for today.

The understanding of the polarities of masculine and feminine energies is interwoven into every aspect of Tantric practices.

Tantra, in fact, is a dance between Shiva (the archetypal God and masculine energy) and his consort Shakti (the archetypal Goddess and feminine energy).

Tantra understands that all of nature operates according to the masculine and feminine energies and principles.

In fact, all of creation does.

Creation exists because of the masculine and feminine energies and principles and would cease to exist without both polarities.

Examples of the masculine and feminine energies represented as polarities include:

The Sun and Moon
Yin and Yang
Active and Passive
Emissive and Receptive
Order and Chaos
Wet and Dry
Night and Day
Left and Right

This idea of gender polarity is not unique to Tantra. You will find mention of it in every spiritual tradition from the dawn of time.

In the ancient Chinese tradition masculinity and femininity are referred to as yang and yin.

Yang is the plus polarity and masculine energy and yin is the minus polarity and feminine energy.

The plus and minus polarities are even found in electricity.

In order for light or power to be produced, the source of electricity must have both a positive and a negative terminal. It is a universal law.

In sum, the yin aspect is:

receptive
dynamic
energy in ecstatic motion
lunar
feminine
nurturing
the minus polarity
the Goddess
Divine Mother
Shiva’s executor who brings his unmanifested will into creation
the energy of transformation

While the yang aspect is:

emissive
pure consciousness
solidarity
masculine
solar
the plus polarity
God
a beacon of light
unwavering and unmoving
a pillar of erectness
has integrity
filled with virtue
a state of equilibrium

When masculinity and femininity are explained in this way, it is unwise and untrue to label one better than the other or inherently negative.

The masculine and feminine energies are simply two sides of the same coin, both critical for the coin to exist.

This duality of our reality is fundamental, meaningful, necessary and a continual evolutionary dance.

Masculine and Feminine Energies Are In Every Human Being

Both the masculine and feminine energies are contained within every single human being regardless of gender.

In Tantra, men are acknowledged as the ultimate symbol of the masculine polarity and principle and women the ultimate symbol of the feminine polarity and principle.

Of course, both energies exist in both sexes.

However, a woman is born in a female body which means she has female hormones, has female reproductive organs. So, her mentality and way of being tend to be more yin in nature.

The same is true for a man.

The male has the masculine structure, hormones, genitals, emotions, thoughts, thinking patterns, and mind of a man.

It’s the differences between men and women which are recognized, acknowledged, and cherished in the tantric tradition. Which is why I really enjoy highlighting Tantric traditions here at The Body House!

Tantra is an all-inclusive spiritual philosophy which views the world and its events according to the principles of energy.

Here is a principle of the masculine and feminine energies as understood by Tantra;

When a woman utilizes her feminine gifts, strengths, and qualities in her spiritual practices, she can make exponentially greater progress than if she used her masculine energy for the same gains.

The same is true for men. Men are far more compelling and effective when they tap into their innate masculine energy for spiritual purposes (or for anything else for that matter).

Balancing The Masculine & Feminine Energies

Tantra says that in order to be a successful, harmonious, and balanced man, you should have a firmly rooted connection to your masculine side and energy.

The same is true for women and their feminine energy.

Which means you embody your biological energy while also balancing the yin and yang energy within your own energy field.

For Example;

Some situations are better suited for the yang energy and some for yin energy.

Knowing which situation requires which energy is a matter of training and also experimentation which is part of Tantric teachings.

Ideally, as a man, you are predominantly expressing and embodying divine masculinity.

You are also utilizing your feminine energy, but much less frequently, as situations arise.

Women predominantly express their divine spiritual femininity and use their masculine energy only as needed.

The masculine and feminine energies and their intense attraction and desire to each other is the very fabric of all societies around the world.

These forces are also found everywhere in life. Among all mammals, plant life, water life, reptiles, fowl and even insects.

Which is why I have often thought that to heal any relationship, society or nation, you must start with the gender polarities.

This may explain somethings regarding mental health, financial abundance and physical well being, among other things.
